                2. Monitoring our impact

The MSC monitoring and evaluation program works to understand the environmental and social impacts of the MSC. It also provides the scientific foundation for a consistent, research-based program.

Good monitoring and evaluation is needed to verify whether our program is delivering the impacts promised by the MSC label.

Katie Longo, Senior Scientist The Marine Stewarship Council

                  Monitoring and evaluating our impact

                  Our monitoring and evaluation team:

                  • analyses the environmental and social impacts of MSC certified fisheries
                  • provides evidence for decision making as the MSC improves the Fisheries and Chain of Custody Standards
                  • communicates the most up-to-date scientific understanding of fish stocks, fisheries management best practice and seafood certification.

                  What information do we use?

网上斗牛游戏The MSC collects information about the program, including data from fishery public certification reports (PCR). These contain the fishery scores for every performance indicator in the MSC Fisheries Standard, and are publicly available in our

External databases, including the and validate conclusions reached in certifiers’ reports.

When evaluating the program, we look for any evidence, whether it’s good, bad or neutral. The way we look at data is designed to be rigorous, to account for information gaps. Despite this, we acknowledge that bias is hard to avoid, so we make our evaluation methodologies and data available to all. Please contact a member of the Strategic Research team if you would like access to our data.
